Let’s go on an Ag Adventure!

The Calcasieu Parish Farm Bureau and the Calcasieu Parish Women’s Leadership Committee recently worked with the Calcasieu Parish Extension Service to create an Ag Adventure for kindergarten students and their teachers.  Ag Adventures is an effort to increase ag literacy and was held in conjunction with the Southwest District Livestock Show.   Students and their teachers were able to get ‘hands on’ with agriculture.  The students learned about rice, aquaculture, horses, foods and nutrition and more! Students also participated in their own rodeo and were able to enter the barrell racing or bull riding events – at least the stick horse variety. The Mini Farm was also a big hit, especially when twin lambs were born during the event – it really was an Ag Adventure! Teachers were given lessons and classroom materials to continue their Ag Adventures back at school.  Thanks to everyone who helped and participated in the event.
